Chapter Three (Contd)
Suddenly, Merlin sat up, turned to
Cassandra and asked, "Did you think about it? Can we start
today -- right now?"
Cassandra's expression darkened.
Merlin added with great emotion, "You
don't understand how important this is to me!"
"I do understand, and you know how I feel
about hypnosis."
"But you've seen it done; you know how
to do it."
Yes, but I don't believe you'll find what you're
looking for."
Morgan Le Fay stood staring at the phone
booth, wondering what it was. She would have lumped it in with
the many other unexplained curiosities of this place and passed
it by -- except for the book. Books were rare and valuable. Morgan
knew that some books had power. This one had a shrine!
Carefully, she approached the booth and gingerly
touched the book with one finger. Nothing. No magic guarded it.
Still, she whispered a few words of protection before opening
it.
Names. Rows and rows of names. Morgan didn't
know what to make of it, but she wasn't going to discount it
until she'd checked for one name in particular.
There it was -- all alone: the only Merlin
in the book, and beside it, numbers and words. Morgan focused
her mind and concentrated. The first number and word were a location.
The significance of the second set of seven numbers eluded her.
But that didn't matter, a location was what she wanted.
